She has worked in various settings during her 21 years in the counseling field, including outpatient clinics, hospitals, and private agencies. Additionally, she has presented at workshops for professionals, and non-professionals, on such topics as chemical dependency/abuse, anxiety disorders, and depression.
Susan’s experience in inpatient and outpatient settings have allowed her the opportunity to work with many people in all walks of life, and to assist them to re-stabilize, and to grow, from their struggles and hardships. Susan works with each person in counseling sessions to determine therapeutic goals, plans for the change process, and provide feedback and support. The educational components in sessions often include insights regarding the change process, managing emotions, identifying and addressing triggers, and symptom management. The clinical symptoms vary depending on the person, but common to many of Susan’s patients are issues with depression, anxiety, substance abuse and dependence, eating disorders, domestic violence, criminal issues, and relationship issues. Encouraging a self concept that includes personal strengths is essential in the therapy process.
